Ingredients
- 1-1/2 Cups Sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 1-1/2 Cups Flour
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla
- 1 Cup Shortening
- 4 Eggs
- 1-1/2 teaspoons Baking Powder
Cooking Directions
- Mix all ingredients
- Spread 3/4 of a cup of the mixture onto a large cookie sheet.
- Spread 1 can of cherry pie mix over it.
- Add the remainder of the dough by dropping it by spoonfuls on top of the cherries.
- Bake for 35 minutes at 350 degrees.
Danish Kringle
Danish Kringle, or “Kringla” (which what my family recipe collection calls this recipe), seems to be a midwestern variation of “kringle,” which is the actual name. This Danish kringle recipe has been around since at least the time my grandmother was a young housewife in Des Moines, Iowa, in the late 1940s. Where she got it before that, I don’t know!
Here is her kringle recipe passed down to my Mom then to me:
Sweet Pumpkin Shell Casserole

INGREDIENTS:
- 1 small pumpkin (10 inches or so)
- 1-1/2 cups of Raisins
- 1/3 of a cup of Sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon of Cinnamon
- 2-1/2 cups of Apples, chopped and peeld
- 1 cup of chopped Pecans
- 1 teaspoon of Lemon Juice
- 1/4 teaspoon of Nutmeg

Peach Cobbler
This recipe was my Great Grandma’s, according to my Grandma!

- 1 stick of real Butter
- 1 cup of Sugar
- 1 cup of Flour
- 2 teaspoons of Baking Powder
- 3/4 of a cup of Milk
- 1 can of Peaches
